NEW CLIENTS!

Dear Junior Ad Executives,

This is a very exciting time for our company.  Recently, the governors for all of the American colonies have announced that they are seeking to increase the number of citizens emigrating from England.  In order to get the most people to live in their colonies, they are looking for fresh ad campaigns that help sell people on moving to the different colonies.  Our company has been contracted to design ad campaigns for the colonies!

Your team's challenge is to create an advertising campaign.

Your clients are looking for ads that highlight their strengths in the following categories:

Information on a the Colony's Origins
Why was the colony founded?

Environmental Information
What are the physical characteristics and climate?

Economic Information
How do people make a living?

Political Information
What form of government does the colony have?

Social Information
What is life like in the colonies?

Other
What else would convince a new immigrant to move to your colony?

TEAMWORK

You will be working with a team for your assigned client. As you think about the tasks ahead of you, please make sure that your team plans together with a common goal in mind.

Throughout the entire process, be sure to document the work your team takes to create your final product.  You will be expected to share this work as part of your presentation, focusing on major decisions, accomplishments, and challenges for your team.

After presentations are done, individual team members will be asked to reflect on the process and will be asked for specific examples when another team member helped them.

Think about...

What jobs will the members of your group have?

How will you document our work processes to be shared after our presentation?

Why is planning ahead for each stage important?

RESEARCH

Before you begin to create your campaign, you will need to spend several days researching information on your colony. You must use Social Studies Alive! America's Past (your textbook) as one of your sources.  There is a complete list of company research materials on our Resources page.

Think about...

How will you take notes?

How do you find the answers to questions in a resource?

How do you avoid plagiarism? Be sure to check out our Legal Considerations page for more information on citing sources and staying out of trouble.

AD CREATION

Your clients would like either a commercial up to 90 seconds long, or a print advertising campaign up to 3 pages long, that highlights the most persuasive information your team discovered during your research.

To see some examples and learn more about what our clients expect, check in with our Creative Department.

When looking for images, be sure to use the Legal Department Approved image search, Creative Commons.  Cite your images in your bibliography.

Think about...

  • Which information did you find that is most persuasive?
  • Which format and tools make the most sense for your ads?
  • Are you writing in a way and tone that will persuade your target audience?

ASSESSMENT

The firm's CEO (Ms. Lane) and Legal Expert (Ms. Carney) will be reviewing your work based on the criteria outlined on the Human Resources page.

Deadline:

Presentations will be on Friday, April 15th
